I believe that appreciation for language can and should extend outside of academic settings. If you’re interested in volunteering or donating to a worthy a cause, I’ve compiled a list of some nonprofit organizations that do great work for their communities. - International Aphasia Movement (IAM)
- IAM provides free speech and language therapy to those with aphasia and strives to create a strong community for those with aphasia as well as co-survivors. I have been volunteering with IAM since 2018 and cannot say enough good things about them. If you are interested in getting involved, feel free to email me with any questions or email them directly.
- Bushwick City Farm
- Bushwick City Farm is a green space in Brooklyn that provides a number of services to the community, including ESL services for asylum seekers. Email them to get involved.
- Endangered Language Alliance (ELA)
- ELA works to support linguistic diversity and document Indigenous, minority, and endangered languages. Email them to get involved.
